Happy birthday, Sachin Tendulkar!
The legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, affectionately known as the “God of Cricket,” will turn 50 on April 24, 2023. He has millions of fans around the world.
Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to ever play the game of cricket, has set and broken numerous records throughout his illustrious career, which lasted over 24 years.
He holds the record for most runs scored in Tests, ODIs, and all other forms of international cricket combined.
Additionally, he holds the record for the most international cricket centuries (100), a singular mark that has not yet been surpassed.
We reflect on all the firsts the maestro has accomplished in international cricket as he approaches a new turning point in his life.
What pioneering feats did Sachin Tendulkar accomplish throughout his career?
The first player to reach 100 centuries in international cricket
Sachin Tendulkar scored his 100th century in international cricket on March 16, 2023, making him the first and only batsman on the planet to do so. To reach the milestone, he scored his 49th ODI century against Bangladesh.
The first player to reach 200 runs in a one-day international
Eight cricketers have so far managed to score two hundred runs in one-day international matches, but Sachin Tendulkar was the first to do so on February 24, 2010, in Gwalior, when he scored an unbeaten 200 against South Africa.
The first player to play 200 tests
The 200th physical appearance in the greater time format came in Sachin Tendulkar’s final Test match of his career. In his hometown of Mumbai, against the West Indies, he participated in his last and 200th test match. With 200 test matches under his belt, he is the first and only player to do so.
30,000 run milestone
In a test match against Sri Lanka on November 20, 2009, Sachin Tendulkar scored 30,000 runs, becoming the first player to do so in international cricket. Test, ODI, and T20I combined, he went on to secure 34,357 runs for the international team. No other player has succeeded in reaching this milestone to this point.
The first to complete 15,000 test runs
In addition, the Indian legend is the first and only batsman to reach 15,000 runs in a Test match. In 2013, he accomplished this feat in the first of his final test series against the West Indies in Delhi.
The first player to reach 18,000 runs in ODIs
Again, only Sachin Tendulkar has amassed 18,000 runs in ODIs, making him the first and only batting legend. On March 24, 2011, in Ahmedabad, during the quarterfinal of the 2011 World Cup against Australia, he accomplished the feat.
Finally, on the occasion of the god of cricket’s 50th birthday, we wish him a healthy and prosperous life ahead.
