BCCI announced the Indian squad for Australia for 3 0DIs, Ashwin Called In

Ravichandran Ashwin has been called to Indian squad for Australia, ending his 20-month absence from ODI action. KL Rahul will be the captain for the first two ODIs, as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya got some time off for the games in Mohali and Indore. India’s 15-man World Cup lineup will remain the same for this game, with Ashwin replacing Axar Patel. If Axar’s recovery gets delayed, Ashwin will represent India in the World Cup. Ashwin, who played in 100 ODIs and taken 150 wickets, dropped from his last ODI against South Africa in Paarl in January 2022.

The Indian team for the 0DIs 2023 against Australia got announced by BCCI

For the ODI series of three matches against Australia that begins on Friday, Ajit Agarkar released two separate squads, both list including Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ravichandran Ashwin is back in the team

The off-spinner gets called to Indian squad for the first two ODIs against Australia, which begin on Friday, ending Ravichandran Ashwin’s 20-month absence from ODI action.

KL Rahul will be the captain for the first two ODIs

KL Rahul became reinstated as captain when Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya got some time off for the games in Mohali and Indore, according to BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. The star trio will return for the final clash, but aside from the additions of Ashwin and Washington Sundar, India’s 15-man World Cup lineup will remain the same for this game.

Ashwin replaced Axar Patel

As a result of an injury, Ashwin took Axar Patel’s place, and Sundar, who filled in for him in the Asia Cup final, has been retained in both squads. According to a report by Mid-Day, the team management contacted Ashwin when Axar struggled with his left quadriceps, but the spinner turned down the offer because he was ill-prepared to prepare at such short notice.

As a result, Sundar, a part of India’s training camp for the Asian Games in Bengaluru, got in touch with the BCCI. He boarded the first flight to Colombo, arrived the day before the championship game, and didn’t bowl or bat but instead celebrated India’s victory in the Asia Cup.

If Axar’s recovery gets delayed, Ashwin will represent India in the World Cup

However, Ashwin’s return to the Indian ODI lineup might only be a temporary solution, given that Axar’s impending recovery will probably allow him to rejoin the action immediately. Despite this, don’t rule out the possibility of a last-minute modification since India has until 27 to make any necessary adjustments.

Agarkar noted that Axar’s participation in the third ODI is contingent upon fitness, and if, for some reason, his recovery doesn’t proceed as anticipated, Ashwin may well be representing India in a 50-over World Cup match for the first time since 2015.

Ashwin, who played in 100 ODIs and taken 150 wickets, dropped from his last ODI against South Africa in Paarl in January 2022 despite having a World Cup record of 17 wickets from 10 games at an average of 34.
