Strong Protest from India as China Denies Entry of Three Wushu Players


Anurag Thakur, the union sports minister, postponed his trip to China due to India’s protest against China’s refusal of permission for three wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh to travel to Hangzhou for the Asian Games. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated that China’s conduct is against the spirit of the Asian Games and that India dismisses the unfair treatment of Indian citizens based on domicile. The MEA spokesperson claimed that China’s action breaches the principles of the Asian Games and the regulations governing their actions, which prohibit prejudice against rivals from member states.

The Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) issued accreditation cards for the three Wushu players, but they couldn’t download their travel documents on the day they needed to leave for the Asian Games. The other ten Wushu players had no problem accessing their papers. Previous sports minister Kiren Rijiju criticized China’s behavior on Twitter.

Due to China’s refusal to permit them, three wushu competitors from Arunachal Pradesh can’t attend the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

The Union sports minister deferred his trip

Anurag Thakur, the union sports minister, postponed his trip to China because of India’s’ strong’ protest against China on Friday regarding the refusal of three wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh permission to travel to Hangzhou for the Asian Games.

Speaking to the media, Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated that China’s conduct is against the “spirit” of the Asian Games and that India dismisses the unfair treatment of Indian citizens based on domicile.

Arunachal Pradesh has always been a crucial part of India

“In keeping with our enduring and unwavering stance, India vehemently rejects treating Indian citizens differently based on their place of residence or ethnicity. Arunachal Pradesh is always a vital, inalienable component of India. China’s intentional and specific obstructing of some of our athletes triggered strong protests in New Delhi and Beijing,” the MEA spokesperson stated.

The MEA spokesperson also claimed that China’s action ” breaches the principles of the Asian Games as well as the regulations governing their actions, which expressly prohibit prejudice against rivals from member states.”

HAGOC issued the accreditation cards

The Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) issued the three wushu players—Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega, and Mepung Lamgu—accreditation cards, which also serve as entry visas.

On Wednesday, the day they needed to leave for the Asian Games, they couldn’t download their travel documents. The other ten Wushu players had no such problem.

These three players can not access their papers

“The moment the athletes received authorization cards from the organizing committee, they got authorized to leave for the Asian Games. Unexpectedly, only these three players can not access their documents and therefore could not board the aircraft,” a representative said.

Previous sports minister Kiren Rijiju criticized China’s behavior on Twitter.
