9 injured in Ramshwaram cafe blast in Bengaluru

Nine individuals sustained injuries in a bomb explosion at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru, as confirmed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of Karnataka. The incident, captured on CCTV, occurred at the popular Kundalahalli restaurant. Initially, authorities were investigating the cause, with the involvement of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), bomb squad, and forensic experts.

According to Siddaramaiah, the blast, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), happened around 12:30 pm, originating from a bag left at the site. An FIR has been lodged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act.

BJP’s Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya conversed with the cafe’s founder, Sri Nagaraj, who attributed the blast to a customer’s abandoned bag, refuting any cylinder explosion. This account suggests a deliberate bombing. The injured victims received treatment at Brookfield Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition, as per Karnataka Police chief Alok Mohan.

DK Shivakumar, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, described the Bengaluru cafe blast as a minor explosion. According to him, a young individual left a small bag at the location, which detonated roughly an hour later, causing injuries to approximately 10 people. He mentioned the formation of 7-8 investigative teams to explore all possible angles of the incident, reassuring the citizens of Bengaluru not to be alarmed.

Responding to allegations from the BJP, Shivakumar emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding Karnataka’s reputation, referencing past events in Mangalore during the BJP’s governance. He reassured the people of Bengaluru that there is no reason for alarm, highlighting the city’s comprehensive surveillance systems and the authorities’ determination to apprehend those responsible.
