Goldy Brar Declared a Terrorist: Unraveling the Links to Khalistani Group and Anti-India Activities

On Monday, the Indian government officially designated Goldy Brar, a notorious criminal, as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The Ministry of Home Affairs, through a gazetted notification, revealed that Goldy Brar is linked to the proscribed Khalistani group, Babbar Khalsa International, known for its anti-India activities. Goldy Brar gained attention from Indian investigative agencies when he claimed responsibility for the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.

The gazetted notification, issued by Praveen Vashista, Additional Secretary of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, stated, “Satwinder Singh alias Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar, currently residing in Brampton, Canada, is associated with Babbar Khalsa International… Babbar Khalsa International is listed as a terrorist organization.”

The notification detailed Goldy’s involvement in various criminal activities, including multiple killings, advocating radical ideologies, making threatening calls to pro-nationalist leaders, demanding ransom, and publicizing his involvement in killings on social media platforms. Goldy was implicated in smuggling high-grade arms, ammunition, and explosive materials using drones from across the border for carrying out killings and supplying them to sharpshooters.

Goldy and his associates were accused of conspiring to disrupt peace, communal harmony, and law and order in Punjab through activities such as sabotage, establishing terror modules, executing targeted killings, and engaging in other anti-national endeavors. Interpol Secretariat General (IPSG) in Lyon, France, issued a Red Corner Notice against Goldy, and a non-bailable warrant was issued on December 12, 2022. Additionally, a Look Out Circular was issued on June 15, 2022.

The central government, asserting Goldy Brar’s involvement in terrorism, intends to include him as a terrorist in the Fourth Schedule of the UAPA, as per the notification. Goldy is wanted by various Union and state agencies in multiple cases related to smuggling weapons and explosive materials across the border from Pakistan. Punjab police have filed several cases against him, including his alleged role in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala and the confessed murder of Dera follower Pardeep Singh Kataria in 2022.
