Strongmen Of Sandeshkhali Shahjahan Sheikh Arrested


Trinamool Congress has taken decisive action against Shahjahan Sheikh, the central figure in the Sandeshkhali land-grab and sexual assault scandal, by suspending him for a six-year period. MP Derek O’Brien announced this move on Thursday, shortly after Sheikh’s arrest, emphasizing the party’s commitment to accountability.

“We’ve opted to suspend Shahjahan Sheikh for six years from the party. Consistently, our actions align with our words. Today, we reiterate our commitment to setting precedents, just as we have in the past,” stated O’Brien.

The influential figure from TMC in Sandeshkhali had been evading authorities for 55 days before being apprehended by the West Bengal Police. Subsequently, a local court remanded him to 10 days of police custody.

After his court hearing, the TMC leader was taken to the CID headquarters at Bhavani Bhawan in Kolkata. Sources suggest that the CID might take over the case.

Sheikh, along with his associates, stands accused in the Sandeshkhali land grab and sexual harassment incidents that emerged amid violent protests in the North 24 Parganas district. His evasion started on January 5, following an attack by a mob of his supporters on an ED officials’ team near his residence in Sandeshkhali.

The issue of Sandeshkhali land grab and sexual assault was a boiling point since many days as BJP wanted strictest action against the accused strongmen now after the arrest and suspension of Shahjahan Sheikh from TMC the ruling party of West Bengal, things will fall into a different zone.
