Australia defeated India by 209 runs on Day 5 To Clinch Their Maiden World Test Championship Title
Australia comprehensively defeated India by a significant margin of 209 runs at the Oval on Sunday, dashing India’s hopes of a dramatic comeback on the final day.
Australia’s First WTC Title
This victory secured Australia’s first-ever World Test Championship title, thanks to the exceptional performance of Pat Cummins and his teammates. In order to achieve a record-breaking target of 444 runs set by Australia, India needed 280 runs on the fifth day. However, they lost all seven remaining wickets during the morning session, extending their disappointing track record in ICC events.
ICC Trophy Drought For India
This marks India’s second consecutive defeat in the World Test Championship final, following their loss to New Zealand in the inaugural edition in 2021. Scott Boland, the fast bowler, delivered an outstanding bowling spell, taking the wickets of Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in the same over, effectively sealing India’s fate.
Consequently, India was dismissed for 234 runs in their second innings. Australia exhibited superior performance in all aspects of the game, while India’s inability to perform in global events was solely to blame for yet another defeat. India’s most recent ICC title victory dates back to 2013.
