The Congress party has renewed its ‘attack on democracy’ accusations against the center, claiming that Lok Sabha proceedings were ‘muted’ before the House adjourned for the day. “Earlier the mike was off, today the proceedings in the House have been muted. For PM Modi’s friend, the house is silent,” the Congress party wrote on Twitter, sharing a video.

In the meantime, K C Venugopal, a Congress member, has filed a privileged motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he is alleged to have said about Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Rahul arrived in Lok Sabha today for the second time after coming under fire in the UK for his remarks about democracy. However, both Houses of Parliament deferred until Monday, with the dispute continuing for the fifth consecutive day as the BJP demanded a public apology from Gandhi and Congress demanded an investigation into the Adani case by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).

In an earlier statement, BJP President JP Nadda accused Rahul Gandhi of becoming a “permanent part” of the “anti-nationalist toolkit” due to his comments on “democracy” in the UK. The BJP has already begun moves to remove Gandhi from the Lok Sabha if he does not apologize in front of the House. The party has already contacted Speaker Om Birla in an effort to set up a special committee to consider suspending the speaker. BJP sources said the matter was “not just a privilege issue, it’s much beyond that.”

While this is ongoing, at 1:30 p.m., Congressman K.C. Venugopal filed a privileged motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly disparaging Congress members Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Simultaneously, the Congress party has renewed its ‘attack on democracy’ accusations against the Centre, claiming that Lok Sabha discussions were ‘muted’ even before the House adjourned for the day.
Earlier at 11.30 am, both Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha suspended till Monday. Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP, arrives in Parliament at 11:20 a.m. on Friday.

In the meantime, the BJP has started the process of suspending him from Lok Sabha if he does not make a public apology. In an effort to establish a special committee to investigate the viability of suspending the Wayanad MP from the House, the party has already contacted Speaker Om Birla.

Earlier in the morning, the big faces of BJP members such as Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, and Kiren Rijuju attacked Rahul Gandhi over a statement made by him in London.

In the meantime, Rahul visited Parliament yesterday for the first time since the BJP attacked him for his Cambridge University speech, and the Congress MP said it would be a “test of Indian democracy” if he were to be told to “shut up” or allowed to speak. Both houses were adjourned twice on Thursday, once shortly after the proceedings began at 11 a.m. and again immediately after they reconvened at 2 p.m.
