Muttiah Muralitharan’s face emerges from the stadium with a cricket ball and a reflection of flying bail and stumps in the motion poster. Madhurr Mittal is shown with Muralitharan’s signature French-cut beard style and a smirk.

The poster was also shared by actor Madhurr, who wrote on Instagram that he was honored to have the chance to portray the legendary character.

“We’re honored to share his story with you beyond the twists and turns that span 22 yards.” #HappyBirthdayMuralidaran. According to the Twitter banner, “800,” the official biopic of #MuthiahMuralidaran featuring #MadhurrMittal, is now available.

The film, which MS Sripathy wrote the script for and directed, is titled “800” in honor of Muralidaran’s Test cricket record for most wickets taken.

Vijay Sethupathi was cast in the lead role when the movie’s producers first announced it in 2020, but Sethupathi withdrew after they received criticism from the Tamil community. Because he backed Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government in Sri Lanka during the civil war with the LTTE, the cricketer received harsh criticism.

He clarified his position on the subject by claiming that he was of Tamil ancestry and that he had never shown disrespect to Eelam Tamils.

Muralitharan played for Sri Lanka in 133 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 12 T20 Internationals. In the longest format, he took an incredible 800 wickets, as well as 534 in ODIs and 13 in T20s. Additionally, he contributed to Sri Lanka’s 1996 ODI World Cup victory.

The movie is scheduled for release in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi in 2023 even though the producers haven’t disclosed the exact date.
