Dr. B. R. Ambedkar also known as Babasaheb was an Indian philosopher, lawyer, historian, anthropologist, and the father of the Indian Constitution.
In remembrance of Indian politician and social reformer B. R. Ambedkar, April 14 is observed as Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti. As Dr. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, it is also his birthday today. He belonged to the Mahar caste and was an untouchable. Additionally, some Indians call his birthday “Equality Day.”
Celebration of Ambedkar Jayanti in Parliament
At Parliament House in New Delhi on April 14, 2016, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar received a tribute from the country in honor of his 125th birthday.
Senior government figures, including the President, Prime Minister, and leaders of the biggest political parties, have a custom of paying admirals to Ambedkar’s statue at the Parliament of India in New Delhi.

History of Celebration of Ambedkar Jayanti
Janardan Sadashiv Ranapisay, an Ambedkarite and social activist, publicly celebrated Babasaheb Ambedkar’s first birthday on April 14, 1928, in Pune. He started the tradition of honoring Babasaheb’s birthday, also known as Ambedkar Jayanti.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Education Background
Ambedkar completed his graduation from high school in 1907. Later, he attended Elphinstone College to complete a BA with honors in political science and economics. He enrolled in Columbia University’s Masters of Arts program in New York, where he later earned a Ph.D. in economics in 1927.
He enrolled in the Gray’s Inn Bar Course in 1916 and finished a second economics Ph.D. thesis at the London School of Economics in addition to both of these endeavors. Ambedkar had 64 areas of expertise and spoke 11 languages fluently.
About Dr. B. R. Ambedkar
After growing up experiencing his community’s mistreatment and prejudice, Dr. BR Ambedkar, a Dalit by birth, decided to dedicate his life to the fight for equal rights. After Independence, his ideas about a fair society free from discrimination had a major influence on India’s sociopolitical discourse.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar also referred to as Babasaheb was an Indian jurist, anthropologist, historian, philosopher, and the principal designer of the Indian Constitution.
He spearheaded the Dalit movement in India and waged a crusade against the caste system there. Dr. Ambedkar spent his entire life fighting for progressive reforms, social justice, and the advancement of equality.
He founded the Indian Finance Commission and developed the principles and ideas that the Reserve Bank of India adheres to.
