Five-day foot march from Ajmer to Jaipur

On Tuesday, Congress leader Sachin Pilot announced that he will start a five-day foot march from Ajmer to Jaipur two days later to raise issues like corruption. Pilot also stepped up his criticism of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for failing to act against corruption and questioned his loyalty to the party’s leadership.

Questioned Ashok Gehlot’s loyalty to the party

Citing Gehlot’s Sunday speech in Dholpur, he asserted that Vasundhara Raje, the chief minister’s predecessor, appears to be the chief minister’s leader rather than Sonia Gandhi.

Gehlot’s speech in Dholpur

In his speech, Gehlot claimed that Raje, along with two additional opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politicians, previous assembly speaker Kailash Meghwal and lawmaker Shobharani Kushwah, had contributed to the success of his government’s defense against Pilot-led rebellion of Congress lawmakers in 2020.

Gehlot asked the lawmakers who “took the money” during the political crisis of 2020 to “return it to Union home minister Amit Shah.”

If they didn’t return the money, he warned them, Shah would continue to put pressure on them.

Sachin Pilot’s response to Gehlots speech

Pilot dismissed claims that legislators received money from Shah as untrue. He explained that his protest was directed at Gehlot’s management style. It is unacceptable. I vehemently refute all erroneous and unfounded accusations.

Gehlot’s criticism of members of his own party’s legislature was dubbed unprecedented by Pilot. “I don’t understand why BJP leaders are praised while Congress leaders are denigrated. This is completely incorrect,” declared Pilot.

Additionally, he said that while some people want to weaken Congress, they will not allow them to do so. “After hearing Ashok Gehlot’s speech in Dholpur, I now understand why we were unable to act in cases of corruption…There is no more important leader than the public.”

During his Jan Sangharsh Padyatra from Ajmer to Jaipur, Pilot said he will also bring up issues affecting the younger generation. “In my opinion, one can only make the best choices when the public is on board…After this yatra, any further decisions will be made.”

Pilot rebelled against Gehlot in July 2020

Pilot rebelled against Gehlot in July 2020 along with 18 other Congress members. Before removing Pilot from his position as the state’s deputy chief minister and Congress chief, the crisis lasted for almost a month.
