The state of Punjab has increased its security measures to capture Amritpal Singh, a sympathizer of Khalistani, who is currently evading arrest. The Punjab government initiated a significant crackdown against Waris Punjab De’s chief, leading to the arrest of 78 members of his organization. The police conducted flag marches and searches across Punjab on Sunday, arresting 34 more of Singh’s supporters and transferring four of his men into custody in Assam. Singh was expected to commence a religious procession called ‘Khalsa Wahir’ from Muktsar district, but the police’s efforts have made it difficult for him to do so.
In the midst of this crackdown, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has requested the state government to respond to a habeas corpus petition on Tuesday, which claims that the preacher is already in illegal police custody and must be released. Amritpal Singh has changed his route multiple times during the manhunt, and four members of his outfit have been brought to Assam from Punjab. Despite the imposition of Section 144 in various Punjab districts, 15 people were detained by the Ludhiana Rural Police for protesting in support of Waris Punjab De’s chief, Amritpal Singh.
On Sunday, the police in Punjab conducted flag marches and searches as part of their pursuit of Amritpal Singh, a radical preacher, and arrested an additional 34 of his supporters. Four of the arrested individuals were transferred to a distant jail in Assam. However, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has requested that the state government respond to a habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of the preacher, alleging that he is being held in unlawful police custody and should be released. Amritpal Singh recently came into limelight after giving interviews to various channels sharing his thoughts on the demand of Khalistan which created a stir in the border state as well as Delhi. It is to be noted that as per reports Amritpal Singh lived for years in Dubai and recently came back to the country a few months ago and brandishes himself on the lines of Bhindrewala.
This issue is considered with utmost criticality by Delhi as well because this is a threat to national integrity and security . Punjab police on the other hand has failed so far in nabbing the main person Amritpal even after almost 24 hours from the time the hunt started.
