KL Rahul withdraws from the ongoing IPL 2023 and WTC Final

The top-order batsman KL Rahul withdrew from the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in June, dealing a severe blow to Team India on Friday.

Rahul, who sustained a thigh injury on May 1 while playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore, will also miss the rest of the current Indian Premier League.

On the recommendation of his medical staff, Rahul will have surgery on his thigh.

Beginning on June 7, the London Oval will host the WTC championship game.

Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer are the other players who are sidelined with injuries.

KL Rahul’s statement

“I’m devastated that I won’t be attending the Oval with Team India next month. I’ll do everything in my power to rejoin the blue and serve my nation. That has always been my primary focus and priority,” Rahul stated in a statement posted to his social media accounts.

“It has been determined that I will soon have thigh surgery after careful deliberation and consultation with the medical staff.

In the upcoming weeks, I’ll be concentrating on my recovery and rehabilitation. It’s a difficult decision, but I know it’s the right one to guarantee a full recovery,” he continued.

LSG Francis’s statement after KL Rahul’s withdrawal

The batter suffered a significant tendon tear, according to a press release from his IPL team, and would be out for a “lengthy layoff.”

Further examinations and scans regrettably revealed a significant tendon tear, necessitating surgery, LSG stated in the release.

“We are working with KL to ensure the best care on his road to recovery, and we are continuing to offer him all the support we can during this difficult period. The severity of the injury, however, means that he will require a lengthy recovery period that will last through the rest of this IPL season.”

Krunal Pandya replaces Rahul as skipper in his absence
In place of their regular captain, the team was led by veteran all-rounder Krunal Pandya against RCB and in its subsequent match against Chennai Super Kings, which ended in a tie after LSG struggled to 125/7 in 19.2 overs while batting first.

KL Rahul’s Injury

Rahul hurt himself while attempting to stop a boundary against RCB at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium, and he had to be helped off the pitch by the team physio and a player on the reserve list.

Rahul came back to bat at number 11 on Monday with the score at 127, but he had trouble running between the wickets as RCB prevailed in the final over.
