In a Twitter exchange, Congress leader Siddaramaiah asked the Center for Indians Stuck in Crisis-Affected Sudan for assistance, which set off a verbal exchange between him and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The last five days in Sudan have seen clashes between the army and a paramilitary group, which have reportedly resulted in the deaths of about 100 people.

In response to the Congressman’s assertion that 31 Karnataka residents were stuck in Sudan’s violent conflict, Jaishankar criticized him on Tuesday. “I am completely shocked by your tweet! Don’t get caught up in politics when lives are on the line,” he advised in a tweet.

Siddaramaih retaliated against the minister by mocking him and remarking that if the latter was too preoccupied to be outraged, he ought to delegate the task of returning Indians to their country to someone else. “I ask for your help as you, Dr. S. Jaishankar, are the nation’s external affairs minister. If you are busy marveling, please direct us to someone who can assist us in getting our people back,” he retorted.

A Twitter feud between Jaishankar and Siddaramaih

The civil war in Sudan has trapped 31 members of the Hakki Pikki tribe from Karnataka, according to Siddaramaiah, who stated this on Tuesday. Siddaramaih expressed worry about the circumstances in Sudan.

Karnataka’s former chief minister requested in a series of tweets that the Ministry of External Affairs, the Union Home Minister’s Office, and the Prime Minister’s Office “rapidly take action” to ensure the Indians’ safe return.

Jaishankar, however, responded angrily to the Congress leader’s tweet, calling it “grossly inconsiderate” of him to make their predicament political.

“I am completely shocked by your tweet! Politics should not be done when lives are at risk. Most Indian citizens and PIOs in Sudan have been in contact with the Indian Embassy in Khartoum continuously since the fighting began on April 14th, Jaishankar tweeted.

For security reasons, he continued, their identities and whereabouts could not be disclosed. He also mentioned that the Indian embassy in Sudan is frequently in contact with the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the situation in that nation.

“You are acting very inappropriately in the current circumstance by diving into the nation based on the situation. No electoral objective justifies putting Indians in danger abroad,” he said.
