Special Parliament session

All Lok Sabha members get a three-line whip from the BJP ordering them to be present in person in Parliament for the entire five days of the Special Parliament session beginning on the 18th of this month. The whip announced that some important matters would get discussed and passed.

Stay in the House for Session

“All BJP members in the Lok Sabha are sent notice that (from Monday, September 18, to Friday, September 22, 2023), several significant legislative matters will get adopted up for debate and passage in the Lok Sabha. Therefore, it asks that all BJP individuals in the Lok Sabha stay in the House for the entirety of the five days to back the position taken by the government,” the whip read.

The agenda of the Special Parliament session remained secret

The whip’s announcement appears a day after the government scheduled an exclusive debate on Parliament’s 75-year history amid rumors about the Special Parliament Session, whose agenda remained secret. The government has also arranged a vote on and passage of the bill regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners.

During the most recent Monsoon session, the bill came up in the Rajya Sabha. “The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023” and “The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023”, which were already approved by the Rajya Sabha on August 3, 2023, are among the other items on the agenda for the Lok Sabha. On August 10, 2023, the bill first appeared in the Rajya Sabha. More items can added to the list of business, which is merely a draught.

Sonia Gandhi wrote to PM Modi to inquire about the agenda

The day before the five-day special session, on September 17, an all-party gathering has officially received a call. Sonia Gandhi previously wrote to PM Modi to inquire why no agenda existed. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed concern that ‘legislative grenades’ remain hidden and will get up at the last minute after the authorities published the plan on Wednesday.
