Indian woman killed in a mass shooting at a US mall
According to authorities, nine people were killed when a shooter opened fire at a busy mall in Dallas, Texas, including a 27-year-old Indian woman who was employed in the US as a project engineer.
Aishwarya Thatikonda was shopping with a friend
The McKinney resident Aishwarya Thatikonda was shopping with a friend when they were shot by Mauricio Garcia at the Allen Premium Outlets in Dallas, according to the New York Post newspaper.
Mass shooting at a US mall
The shooting began on Saturday around 3:30 pm as the outdoor mall was crowded with shoppers. Before Mauricio Garcia, a 33-year-old gunman, was killed by a policeman, the shooting claimed the lives of at least eight other people.
Who was Aishwarya?
Aishwarya was a project engineer at Perfect General Contractors LLC and the daughter of a district judge in Ranga Reddy court in India.
She obtained her civil engineering degree from a college in Hyderabad, India, and then finished her master’s degree in the US, where she worked for more than two years before moving there.
Her family is in shock
Before the incident on Saturday, Aishwarya had spoken to her family members; however, when they called her again after learning about the shooting, they received no response, according to the judge’s friend.
“On Sunday, the family was informed of (her death). They’re in disbelief. They were informed that attempts were underway to deliver her body by Wednesday,” according to the judge’s friend.
While her family was in India, she was an engineer who worked and resided in Texas. According to the newspaper, her unnamed friend was hurt but is now in stable condition at the hospital.
The tragedy happened a few weeks before the Texas school shooting
The tragedy on Saturday happened just a few weeks before the Uvalle, Texas school shooting, which left 19 children and two adults dead on May 24, 2022.
Mass shootings in the USA in 2023
