Congress Releases Agenda for Special Session of Parliament


The Congress parliamentary party has announced that the upcoming Special Session of Parliament will focus on the latest Adani Group revelations, economic concerns, the Himachal Pradesh natural disaster, and ongoing unrest in Manipur.

The party will bring up critical national problems such as unemployment, price increases, and floods in Himachal Pradesh and the North East. The government has not previously announced its agenda. Rumors suggest that the government may introduce several legislative items, such as regulation on sub-quota in the 27% OBC reservation, legislation renaming the nation Bharat, and the women’s reservation bill.

Congressmen Jairam Ramesh and Gaurav Gogoi criticized the government for keeping the topics for the special session a secret.

The government’s stance on the Special session

Government business will take up most of the time during the special session, which will take place from 18-22 this month.

But, Congress cleared that they would push for discussion of the problems that matter to the nation. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh declared, “We have no plans to be oblivious to Modi Chalisa for five days.”

“Political, social, and diplomatic issues exist. We need to talk about the border situation. We won’t be sitting down for a Modi chalisa. We wanted to address our concerns in every session, but there was never enough time. We are hopeful that the government will accept us during this session. We will choose 5-7 topics and insist that they come up regardless of the rules,” added Ramesh.

Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, stated that the party decided to bring up crucial national issues at the CPP meeting, “such as the economic situation—including unemployment and price increases—as well as the floods in Himachal Pradesh and the North East. In Manipur, the instability persists even today.”
